Due to a lack of space to construct an additional runway at Istanbul Atatürk Airport, airport growth being restricted due to the growth of the city, the Turkish Airport Authority not allowing additional cargo or charter flights to the airport, and worsening air traffic congestion, it was decided to construct a new airport to serve IstanbuIstanbul Airport is the main international airport serving Istanbul, Turkey. It is located in the Arnavutköy district on the European side of the city. When all of its phases are completed, it will be able to serve up to 200 million passengers per year in its 2 terminals constructed over an area of 76,5 km², with six independent runways. While the project name of the airport was determined as the New Istanbul Airport during its construction, it was announced as Istanbul Airport on completion. One of the important aspects of the design is to  correspond to current design and architecture in the 21st century. iki design group propesed a charming and iconic airport entrance gate following the airtport design principle. The proposal not only invites and attracts people and passersby, but also stands as a monument to represent the city of Istanbul and the project itself. Dynamic form supplies to greet all passengers engagingly.
